The 36th Annual Jack Taylor Memorial Chess Tournament

 

A 5 round CFC rated Swiss Nov. 13-14, 2021

 

$2000 Guaranteed Prize fund

 

 

 

This year's event, the 36th, has been again generously supported by the Jack Taylor family.  Make sure to attend this year!

When: Nov. 13-14, 2021. 

 

Where:   Delta Ocean Pointe Resort, 100 Harbour Road, Victoria.   A premium hotel on the inner harbour.   Downtown is a 10-15 minute walk and the Victoria Water Taxi also stops at the hotel.

 

Rounds:  Saturday Nov. 13 at 10:00 am, 2:30 pm, 7:00;  Sunday Oct. 27 at 10:00am, 2:30pm

 

Time Control: Game/90 + 30 sec increment

 

Sections:  Premier and U1600.  You may play up a section up to 200 rating points above your rating lifetime high.  Add $20 if playing up and your  rating  is within 100 points of the section boundary.   Add $40 if playing up and your rating is more than 100 points of the section boundary (eligibility to play up based on lifetime high, play up fees based on current rating).      2nd & higher entries from one family receive a family discount of $20.  

 

Rating: CFC rated.   Players with a Victoria Chess Club rating but no CFC rating will have that used for pairings and prize eligibility.  Other unrated players will normally be assigned a rating by the organizer for pairing and prize eligibility.

1st:  $500

2nd: $250

3rd:  $150

U2000:  $250

U1800:  $200

U1600 Section:

1st: $250,

2nd: $150

U1300: $150, $100

 

Entry Fees: Registered & paid on or before Oct. 1 -$70, Registered & paid on or before Nov 8. - $80, Onsite - $95.   Discount of $20 for 2nd & higher family members.

 

Accommodation:  Delta Ocean Pointe Resort, 100 Harbour Road Victoria.   $149 single/double.  Call Marriott Reservations at 1-800-268-1133 and mention Victoria Chess.   Room block is held only to Oct. 21 so book early.

 

Registration:   Online on or before November 8 or on site 9:00-9:30am Saturday ( after 9:30 a Swiss pairing is not guaranteed).

COVID Information:

  • The event will be held in conformance with applicable standards set by the health authorities and as set by the venue. 
  • Decisions on requirements (masks, spacing, etc) will be made closer to the start of the event.  However, if a 2 meter distancing requirement is still in effect, the event will be cancelled.
  • If the event is cancelled due to COVID related reasons, all entry fees will be refunded.

  • CFC membership or CFC tournament membership required.   First time players as described on our Policies page will have a free CFC tournament membership. You can buy a CFC membership either during our registration process or directly from the CFC here.
